milkmade flavor of the day: Orange Julius
vanilla hinted orange ice cream
Man, I used to LOVE a trip to the mall as a kid. Not for the shopping, but because each trip ended with an Orange Julius. That delicious creamy orangey vanillay who-knows-what-elsey smoothie. Well, we’ve recreated it in ice cream form. Seriously, one bite and I’m back at the food court.
A very talented Bake It in a Cake reader named Daniela made the double rainbow coconut cupcakes and they look SO AMAZING! She was kind enough to give me permission to share her photo. She says: “I am really excited about how good they looked (and they tasted even better!)”
Here’s the recipe, should you want to make your own (and you do). A perfect spring treat!
(And if you make your own Bake It in a Cake creation, send me a photo! I’d love see your creations.)

Mother’s Day is coming up! You knew that, right? What are you doing for your mother? You should really go organize her closet. And then ask her for $20. Congratulations, you’ve reenacted my Mother’s Day Tradition Grades 3-12.
In Beckarootie’s honor, here’s a Mama Faux Pasta (MaFoPa, the hottest neighborhood in NYC) classic recipe - prosciutto-wrapped asparagus with a side of tangerine mayonnaise. She’s been making this for dinner guests since 1985, and asparagus will break any ice with a stinky pee joke. We made it a few weekends ago for my dad’s Colombian friend Joaquim, who was highly impressed by my blondies.
Blanch your asparagus and chives in boiling water for a few minutes until tender, dunk in an ice bath. Pat them dry with paper towels and arrange in stacks of 3. Roll those puppies up like pigs in a blanket, but I guess a more accurate description would be “trees in a pig” like a wiley boar chomping redwoods all night long. Tie it with a blanched chive and snip off the ends like you’re role-playing SuperCuts. Make a mayonnaise in the blender - hell, just Google it! I’ve explained it a million times! What do you think this is, a food blog? And throw a little tangerine zest and the juice of half a tangerine in. Dip a trees-in-a-pig in the mayo and call your mom.

milkmade flavor of the day: Cha Cha Chocolate
chocolate cuban spice cake ice cream
THIS IS THE NEW BEST THING WE’VE EVER CRAFTED. And we cannot WAIT to share it at tomorrow’s ice cream social at Kate Spade. Inspired by their Cha Cha Chocolate clutch (below), it’s a rich milky chocolate made (of course) with Mast Brothers chocolate. To “Cha Cha” it up, we’ve added derivations of a Cuban Spice Cake (aka “Hawaiian Spice Cake”) — fresh pineapple + seasonings.
Is it? Could it be? It is. Skittles Ice Cream.
I adamantly argued this would be unappetizing. I was so very wrong. It is mind blowing. You can taste the rainbow in every bite.
